TO CREATE DOMAIN CONTROLLER WE HAVE 4 STEPS : -


1. INSTALLATION OF DNS ( DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM ).

2. CONFIGRATION OF DNS.

3. MAKING THE SYSTEM AS A DNS CLIENT.

4. INSTALLATION OF ADS ( ACTIVE DIRECTORY SERVICES ).

• WHAT IS DNS : IP – RESOLUTION IS CALLED DNS , WHICH

RESOLVES HOST NAME TO IP – ADDRESS. IT WILL MAINTAIN ONE TABLE WHERE IT WILL DISPLAY ALL CONNECTED COMPUTER NAME AND IP – ADDRESS.

• DNS RESOLVES HOST NAME TO IP – ADDRESS AND IP – ADDRESS TO HOST NAME.

• DNS IS DIVIDED INTO 2 PARTS : -

1. FORWARD LOOK – UP ZONE AND.

2. REVERSE LOOK – UP ZONE.

• NOTE : IN FORWARD LOOK – UP ZONE TYPE COMPUTER NAME TO IP – ADDRESS.

• NOTE : IN REVERSE LOOK – UP ZONE GIVE IP – ADDRESS TO COMPUTER NAME.

• NOTE : DNS IS A INTERFACE BETWEEN DC ( DOMAIN CONTROLLER ) AND DOMAIN CLIENT.


TO MAKE DOMAIN CONTROLLER IN WIN – 2003


1. INSTALLATION OF DNS ( DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM ) : -

• GO TO START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANNEL > ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS.

• CLICK ADD REMOVE COMPONENTS > IN WINDOWS COMPONENT WIZARD.

• SELECT NETWORKING SERVICES > CLICK DETAILS > HIGHLIGHT DNS AND DHCP.

• CLICK OK > CLICK NEXT > NOW IT WILL ASK TO INSERT THE WIN – 2003 CD.

• INSERT THE CD > AFTER COPYING FILES PRESS ENTER > CLICK FINISH.

• NOW DNS AND DHCP OPTIONS WILL COME IN ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS.


2. CONFIGRATION OF DNS : -

• GO TO START > PROGRAMS > ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS > DNS.

• SELECT COMPUTER NAME > CLICK FORWARD LOOK – UP ZONE.

• RIGHT CLICK > NEW ZONE > CLICK NEXT > SELECT PRIMARY ZONE.

• CLICK NEXT > TYPE ZONE NAME : - KRANTHI.COM.

• CLICK NEXT > NEW ZONE WIZARD > CLICK NEXT > ALLOW BOTH SECURED AND NON SECURED DYNAMIC UPDATES > CLICK FINISH.

• NOW SELECT REVERSE LOOK – UP ZONE > PRESS ENTER.

• RIGHT CLICK NEW ZONE > PRESS ENTER > SELECT PRIMARY ZONE.

• CLICK NEXT > IN NETWORK ID TYPE IP – ADDRESS 192.168.100.

• CLICK NEXT > ZONE FILE WIZARD >AGAIN CLICK NEXT.

• SELECT DYNAMIC UPDATE WIZARD > ALLOW BOTH SECURED AND NON SECURED DYNAMIC UPDATES > CLICK NEXT >CLICK FINISH.


3. MAKE THE SYSTEM AS A DNS CLIENT : -

• GO TO MY NETWORK PLACES > RIGHT CLICK PROPERTIES.

• SELECT LOCAL AREA NETWORK PROPERTIES.

• SELECT TCP/IP > CLICK PROPERTIES > IN PREFFERED DNS SERVER TYPE DNS SYSTEM ADDRESS 192.168.100.3 > CLICK ADVANCED.

• CLICK DNS > PRESS ENTER > IN DNS SUFFIX FOR THIS CONNECTION : -

• TYPE DNS NAME KRANTHI.COM.

• SELECT BELOW BOTH OPTIONS > CLICK OK > CLICK APPLY > OK > AGAIN OK.

• NOW GO TO MY COMPUTER > RIGHT CLICK PROPERTIES > COMPUTER NAME OPTION.

• CLICK CHANGE > CLICK MORE > TYPE DNS NAME KRANTHI.COM .

• CLICK OK > AGAIN OK > CLICK YES TO RESTART COMPUTER.


4. INSTALLATION OF ADS ( ACTIVE DIRECTORY SERVICES ) :

• GO TO START > RUN > TYPE DCPROMO > CLICK OK > CLICK NEXT > CLICK NEXT.

• SELECT DOMAIN CONTROLLER FOR NEW DOMAIN > CLICK NEXT.

• CREATE NEW DOMAIN WIZARD > SELECT NEW DOMAIN IN A NEW FOREST >TYPE DOMAIN NAME KRANTHI.COM > CLICK NEXT.

• DISPLAY NET BIOS NAME > CLICK NEXT.

• DATA BASE AND LOG FOLDER > CLICK NEXT.
• SHARED SYSTEM VOLUME > CLICK NEXT > NEXT.

• SELECT PERMISSION COMPATIBLE WITH PRE WINDOWS – 2000 SERVER SYSTEMS.
